Who is Kelsi and What are we doing in her closet?

I have been asked who Kelsi is a number of times lately. I am not Kelsi. My name is Melissa Muir and I am Kelsi’s mother.

Kelsi is my second daughter and sadly, she is an angel. Kelsi was born 16 weeks early due to Pre-eclampisa, a complication in pregnancy where my blood pressure became dangerously high in addition to poor kidney and liver function. Please visit the Pre-eclampsia Foundation for more information regarding Pre-eclampsia.

You can read all about Kelsi and my story on her website… www.babiesonline.com/babies/k/kelsi2005/

I started Kelsi’s Closet with a couple of things in mind. Kelsi and I have been able to raise a lot of awareness of Pre-eclampsia, I even know of 4 lives we have saved because of that awareness. Kelsi’s Closet Jewelbox is also a place where I sell the angels made in her honor and in the honor of many other angels.

When Kelsi died, my amazing mother made her the most beautiful dress. It is the dress she was buried in. She asked if I would like her to make other “Kelsi-sized” dresses for other future angels. In the hosptial, Kelsi was dressed and brought to me when we removed her from life support. This dress absolutely drown her as she weighed less than a pound. My mother made 12 dresses and blankets for me to donate to the NICU at Fairfax INOVA Hospital in Virgina on Kelsi’s due date. I donated all but one, and I kept that one for myself. With this beautiful act of my mothers, Kelsi’s Closet was born.

I still have ideas for Kelsi’s Closet and Kelsi’s Closet Jewelbox, but until I get on my feet a little more with things, we will just keep plugging away as we are.

There you have it. Now you know who Kelsi is and what we are doing in her closet. haha

MELISSA! Wow! Just read this whole page. I am THRILLED that this is working out so wonderfully for you. Your work is beautiful, for SURE! I love the metalwork, you seem to be getting VERY good at it!! I’d LOVE a cuff! (hey.. an idea.. a g/f of mine had a silver cuff, w/ crosses cut out of it. Simple enough, and just georgous!! I’d like to see one of those.. or, maybe metalwork crosses, linked (big ones, maybe?) to form a cross?

    Hey Laura,

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate it. That is a GREAT idea about the cuff. I will let you know if I ever get something worked out on it.

I am certainly enjoying the metalwork. It has been a lot of fun and a whole new way of thinking for me.

I hope things are going well for you!
