Not Quite According to Plan

Well, as you can see, things didn’t quite go according to plan last week. Again, I had high hopes for many things and lots of plans including more hikes, a biking trip or two and studio time. Instead it was replaced with a doctors visit, x-rays and ice packs.

On Wednesday, we went hiking as planned and visited 3 waterfalls. It was amazing. I cannot even begin to describe the beauty of this place that we live in. It was the perfect day for hiking. The skies were clear and the air was cool. We set out around 9:00 am and returned home at 3:30 pm.
I will let the pictures speak for themselves. The pictures aren’t great as they are taken with my phone. Perhaps I will ask for a camera for my birthday today. Even with the best camera in the world, I don’t believe I would ever be able to capture the beauty of this place.

After a 2 mile hike up the mountain our reward for the final falls of the after noon was nothing short of awe inspiring. It is amazing to stand in a place and just feel the power of nature. The hike alone was like walking through a magical land where anything is possible. Kate and I talked about the fairies and magical creatures that surely must live in such an enchanted place.

I wish I could say that everything went smoothly on the way down, however, a rogue tree root got the better of me. I ended up with a severely sprained ankle. I know I have never had an injury this bad before and I hope to never have one again. Sadly, this happened only 1/2 a mile down, so that means I had to hobble 1 1/2 miles back down the mountain on a sprained ankle. It wasn’t fun and it took me an hour to get to the car. BUMMER! So for the remainder of the week and weekend my view had changed from the planned hikes to this…

The swelling has finally come down a bit, though it is still much thicker than before and it is now quite colorful with shades of black, blue, purple, yellow and green, all the way up my calf. I am being very careful and staying off of it as much as possible as I really want this to heal as best as it can so I can get back to the trails.
Today is my birthday. My baby is off to the sitter so my hubby can sleep after working the night shift and I don’t have to chase her around on this sore ankle. My 5-year old tells me she has a “show” that she is putting on. She has it all planned out and has lots of friends that “are going to help.” However, none of them have plans to come over. LOL. She also told me she was going to make my birthday cake. Perhaps with the help of my 12-year old, she just might accomplish that task. I need to get into the studio today to finish up a couple of custom orders. I hope to get a quick video filmed or at least some pictures for a TTT post. We will just have to see how things fair with weight on the foot.
Have a good day everyone.

Beautiful scenery. sorry about the ankle, when the wrap comes off and the Dr. says your ok, be verry verry careful. I did the same thing several years ago, used the crutches etc, first day back to normal activity after felease release. I was walking across parking lot and ankle pulled a little, I didn’t fall but the ankle started hurting again and I wound up in a walking cast for over 2 months during summer in Florida. The little pull was a not quite healed slight sprain becoming a much worse tear. Watch out for those slippery rocks and roots. take care

So sorry that you sprained your ankle so badly. Hope that it heals very soon. Try to take it easy as best you can and continue to keep it elevated and iced as often as you can.
As for the pictures they truly are beautiful. It looks like you did end up in an amazing and beautiful place. I would love to be able to hike in such a lush and lovely place. We have some nice places here in the Mountain of WNC but I’m not sure if they are up to par with the pics that you show here.
    Take care and heal soon.

You indeed have a beautiful corner to live in. Very nice! I feel for you with your injury and recommend high-top boots next time. They are not stylish in any way, but they do a great job protecting the ankles.

    Thanks Maria,

You know, one of my friends brought me a very large RED VELVET cupcake… MY FAVORITE. How could it not be a good day? LOL.

That is really good to know Val. Thank you. I know that it is really tricky when you start to feel back to being better but you really aren’t. I will be more vigilant with the ice and packing.

Thanks Heather, I am doing my best…. well, okay, I haven’t done my best, but I think I will make more of an effort to be better. Oh this place is amazing. I am in love. It seriously makes me ill when I hear my hubby say that he doesn’t want to stay.

You are truly blessed to live in an area with so much beautiful nature and scenery.
I’ve been told by my doctor that a bad sprain often is worse than a break. I too sprained my ankle badly and it wasn’t fun, but it healed just fine.
Hope you have a quick recovery!

Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery! I’m a reader from the east coast and have so enjoyed your videos, photos, tutorials, and blog posts. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your knowledge. Wish I lived closer to your side of the world so I could take classes. Hope you’re back on your feet soon!

Happy Birthday, Melissa & so sorry about your ankle! Your pics are unbelievable gorgeous, so hopefully it was (a little) worth it 😉

  16. Shelby

What a bummer! But from the photos it does look gorgeous! Hope the ankle doesn’t hinder you to long. Happy Birthday!

    Thanks Kors,

Yes, this is certainly worse than a break. It is so frustrating to just sit here day after day with it propped up. Every now and then I decide it feels good enough to get up and do a few things, and then I pay for it as it swells up quickly. So I am doing my best to kick back and relax. Forced relaxation is some of the hardest I know. LOL. Glad yours healed well. It gives me hope.

Thank you Linda. This place really is beautiful. I can’t wait until i am able to start teaching classes again. <3

    Thanks Elise,

You know, I am so glad we made it to the waterfalls before this happened. It would have been so much worse had it happened on the way up and we never got to see them. So yes, at least it is a little worth it. LOL.

Thanks Shelby.  My birthday was actually really nice. And I hope it doesn’t hinder me too long either. I am already going stir crazy just sitting here.
