I didn’t really make much today. I actually made the pieces last night and then finished them up today.
I wanted to do some fold forming, so I made these fold formed earrings. They are pretty big though, about 2 1/2″ long and 1 1/2″ at the widest part. I used some red alcohol inks on them, but I am not caring for it at all. So I will probably remove the red and then do a heat patina or oxidize them with another method. They are 22 gauge, so they aren’t too heavy, but there is some weight to them.

I also oxidized the cuff I made last night. I still think I would have liked it better if I had oxidized the bracelet before doing the interior lacing. But I must say that I like the warmth of this now much better than before.

Hi Melissa,
I’m loving your work and I have a question about the laced cuff.
Do you seal the patina ?
I do agree that it might have looked better oxidized before the lacing.
I make copper cuffs which I seal with Permalac because most people’s first comment is “they look great, but will it turn my arm green?”.
try some electrolytic etching using Copper sulphate and a rectifier and /or 6 volt battery…then liver of sulphur..simple and evrtlasting solution chemistry..oe as we would call it a balanced equartion..good luck and thank you for your kevin potter tools…just purchased his hydrauluc press amd eagerly looking forward to your postings..as a result of your informative posts have plunged myseld down to hydraulic forming..re-vitalized me after all these lost years…grateful and thanks again..
Thanks Robyn,
Thanks Mike,
loooove them, esp the darker copper cuff!
The bracelet before & after is really super stylish!
Thanks Georgette. I really like it too. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.
Thanks Gloria.
I love your work Melissa!
Thanks Melissa, I too turn green, but only if the weather is warm or humid.
I use both those sealants on my copper and brass. I’ve also lined some with fine leather, lashed to the cuff with Fine Silver wire.
