Custom Ruby Pendant

My open house was this past weekend and it didn’t go nearly as well as I had hoped. I don’t know if I should have done something different for marketing or the timing was off or people just didn’t have time or money. At any rate it has me really thinking about the jewelry business. Should I keep doing it? Should I stop making jewelry? Should I just teach classes? All these thoughts just tumbling around in my head. Perhaps I will figure it all out soon enough. In the meantime I am going to try and spend as much time in the studio as possible.

I had a custom order placed ages ago. It took a while to get the rubies in as they were ordered first and then cut by the cutters in India. My customer has been so patient and I am really hoping she likes what I have come up with. This is a gift for her 40th anniversary and Ruby is the stone for the 40th. The rubies in this piece are 4mm and 6 mm. They are so pretty. The gem cutter did a fantastic job on them and even the backs are polished, which is rarely the case with most gem cutters.

I agree!!! It is beautiful! I also think that this year is harder for sales because of the economy. Your jewelry is to beautiful, you are very talented and you shouldn’t stop creating!!!

Hi, all. I am the lucky recipient of this BEAUTIFUL pendant. It is a 40th wedding anniversary gift. I like Melissa’s work so much and I asked her to make something for me in honor of this celebration. Let me tell you that it is even more beautiful in person. I’m a lucky woman to have a husband who wants to give me such a lovely gift, and to know someone as talented as Melissa to make it for me. And my husband loves it, too. So, again, Melissa – THANK YOU!!!!!! I will cherish it always. Anita

Lois, I can always count on  you to bring a smile to my face with your lovely comments. The rubies are so pretty. I wish i had ordered more. But then again, I guess there are more buys coming up. I think I need to use up what I have first though.

    Thanks again! ~Melissa~

Thank you Penny. Yeah, I think the economy is hitting us pretty hard this year, particularly in Ohio. And the flu that is going around hasn’t helped anything out either. I will keep creating. Besides, I have to use all this stuff up right?

Thanks for the encouragement Swati. I appreciate it. You have been my biggest cheer leader as I have struggled my way through all of this. I cannot tell you how much that means to me, though I do try all the time.

    Anita,

Of all the comments on this piece, yours is perhaps, the most important. I am so thrilled that you are happy with it. It was a lot of fun to make. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to make this special piece for you. Thank you also for just handing it over and trusting my creative abilities. You have been fabulous to wait for so long. I hope it was worth the wait.

    Happy Anniversary (many months late),

Melissa – This piece in the picture is stunning, but in person it is fabulous…a true work of art. Anita wears it proudly and tells everyone about the wonderful designer who crafted it. You made her extremely happy and I thank you for that…
