Well, I finally finished her. The angel for the Preeclampsia Foundation Fundraiser turned out beautifully. Okay, okay, so I am totally biased, but I really do think that this is one of my finest pieces yet. I went through several renditions of the chain but finally ended up with two handmade links and the remainder of the chain is a simple round link chain.
The Preeclampsia Foundation fundraiser is on September 20th in Washington, DC. I am really excited. I will actually be staying in my old house there. Now that is a trip. It is so strange to stay in a place you once lived, but are now only a guest. It is still kind of fun. I am really glad that our friends bought the place. It is fun to go back.
My class schedule is coming soon. I should have it finished by the end of this week.
Also, just a reminder, I will be at the Cevasco Diamond Cafe this Saturday for their annual art festival and wine tasting. I would love to see you there. I will have a lot of items for sale and will also be demonstrating some of the things we do in my classes.
The event begins at 12:00 noon and ends at 9:00 that evening.

A little while back I was asked by the current director of the Pre-eclampsia Foundation if I would be willing to make a piece to be auctioned off for the annual fund raiser. I have fretted and stewed over this piece for many months. Not knowing which direction to go and yes, I have actually lost a little sleep for it as well.
Most of you that read my posts know that I have 3 children. Riley is 8 and Kate is 2. Those are the two that you hear about and will see pictures of from time to time. However, I do have a third, Kelsi. Kelsi was born at 24 weeks into my pregnancy with her because I developed severe pre-eclampsia, a life threatening disease that can happen during pregnancy. Kelsi was born weighing only 13 oz. Yup, less than a pound. She was only 8 1/2″ long. Aside from a doll, she is the smallest baby I have ever seen in my life. You can read more about her if you would like on her website. Kelsi’s Webiste : Kelsi lived for 2 1/2 days before she passed away in my hands. It was difficult, but we have had so many great experiences because of her short life. She continues to bless us and I honestly believe that she had a very large helping hand in this next piece.
Have you ever been working on something so hard, nothing comes to you at all, and then all of the sudden without knowing it, it is right there in front of you. Well, that is exactly what happened with this piece. I had my piece drawn out on paper and then I played with a combination of stones for about 2 hours, just laying stones on the drawing trying to figure out which would work best. All the proportions were wrong. Then for the longest time the angel looked like a butterfly. A butterfly would have been okay too since they are often associated with the death of a child also. But I really wanted an angel.
As I was putting the design wires into the wings I was inspired to change them a little and low and behold, I ended up with an Angel. I am so proud of this piece. It isn’t finished yet. The stones haven’t been set as I am still working out the bail and necklace that it will hang from. But I must say, I do believe this is my very best piece yet.
This sweet Angel is for an online friend. It is in honor of her 3 angel babies. Many hugs Sarah.
We had friends come in from Virginia that week. I had been working hard to get things done around the house and Kate has been more clingy than ever. So I got about 5 or 6 new angels made up and one pendant.
Here are three of the angels I did this week. I was playing around with them trying to come up with a little different style. They almost look like butterflies. I would like to add some butterflies to my work, but haven’t quite figured out how to make the bail yet. I will have to keep working on that.
Here is a new pendant that took me about 3 days to finish and get right. Even then I had to do some re-working with it as I melted some of the spirals trying to get the copper backing attached. In the end, I am pretty pleased with how this piece turned out. It has some nice weight to it and is very feminine.
This was a good week for Angels. I think I sold 5 or 6. Most of them were custom made for the person ordering them. I really enjoy that part.
I have been asked to provide a table with my jewelry at the Pre-eclampsia Walk-a-thon in Dayton, OH, June 2nd. I am really excited as this organization is very important to me. I am completely honored to be presenting my jewelry there. I will also be in charge of the memorial tribute. I have a couple of ideas, but we will have to see what I come up with.
I call this one the Royal Angel. It is made with a purple Dichroic Glass made by Gail Lacy. I really like the way this one turned out. I have had quite a few comments on it.
This is an angel I made for my friend Rebecca. The three pearls represent her 3 earthly children.
This angel was made for a friend of mine. She is the one that told me about the Pre-eclampsia foundation after my sweet Kelsi died due to pre-eclampsia. The two stones represents Katlyne’s birth and death months.
This next angel was made for my friend Jess. She didn’t know if her angel was a boy or girl so we used a single pearl.
I have been very busy making several different pendants and a few new angels. I want to add a memorial section to my website. I want to give people a few types of angels that they choose from. My thinking is that I will give them the option of the birthstons and they can select from that. I still have to figure out how it will work since each angel is hand created and no two will ever be really alike. I will also add the Mother’s bracelets and I want to make some heart shaped pendants. I am still working out the designs on those. But here is what I have to add to my website tonight.
Shameless – I love this raspberry colored stone.
Blue Raspbery Ice
Mint Julep – The depth of this stone is AMAZING! It is a larger pendant with some good weight to it, but I like it.
Red Rose Angel
Red heart angel (Riley’s Angel – she liked this one and wanted to have an angel named after her)
Pink Heart Angel
I have been trying to get ready for adding a section of Angels to my Website. I wanted to try various looks so that my angels don’t all look the same and people can choose from several styles. I have had some interest in them. I hope I can sell them.
This Angel is a bit different. It is a beautiful Faceted Agate briolette. This particular pendant is reversable. Both sides of the stone were so pretty and full of detail I didn’t know which one to use. It is wrapped in 14K gold filled wire.
This Angel is called Silver Lace. Her skirt is made with Sterling Silver beads woven in with Fine Silver wire.
This Red Angel is actually quite pretty in person. It features a Swarovski Glass pearl for her head and Swarovski faceted crystal for the dress. The dress is made with Fine Silver.
The Carnelian Angel has a deep red heart shaped glass bead for her head. The dress is drapped with Carnelian and sterling silver beads.
I made this set for my soon to be sister-in-law. Her colors are pink and white. It is made with Sterling Silver, Rose Quartz and Swarovski Crystals.
Here is a new Blue Sodalite Angel. I like this one.
I have several more items that need pictures taken. We have had nothing but rain the last few days so the lighting hasn’t been condusive to photography.
I have been in such a creative funk lately. I would do some pendants and not be happy with how they turned out. I still have several pendants sitting in my studio just waiting to be re-worked. I have now caught up with my YOJ pieces, however, many of them aren’t on theme. I still need to photograph my Take Flight pieces. I have taken some pictures of my newest pendants, but will have to redo the photos when I have some decent light. As it is, midnight pictures will have to do.
I made a different angel for my friends sister. She asked that I do one in pink for the little girl she lost and the blue represents her boys.
