A new leaf

What a crazy week this has been. I have not had a moment to slow down since the weekend before last.

In my jewelry production class we were given the assignment to come up with a finished piece for Monday morning. I had been working so hard on one and just couldn’t get it to work for me. I even hired a baby sitter for Friday so I could go in to the studio at school and work on it for 4 hours. I came away almost no closer to being done than when I had gone in. It was so utterly frustrating. Finally, Sunday night after wanting to never make jewelry again, and sadly, after getting upset with my family, I was able to come up with something that would work even though it wasn’t exactly what I was thinking of.  Oh, and yes, I have made up with my family.

Here is the piece I came up with for Monday morning.

Monday we went through all the pieces by everyone and gave each other feedback. While I felt I had a good start on mine, I wasn’t completely pleased with it. It also looks like my viney thing has a frogs foot. haha! So we were given the assignment to come up with another finished piece by Wednesday – YIKES! I have been working so hard on this with the VERY LITTLE time I have right now. I finally finished and it is 12:00 in the morning. That means I will be handing this in to my instructor in just a little over 8 hours. *YAWN*

There is such a big difference between these two pieces. I would like to perhaps try to make this a bit smaller. The copper pendant is rather large for my taste. Nealy 3 inches long and just about 2 inches wide. Anyway, I would appreciate any comments you may have. Thanks for looking.

Melissa, I love this piece – in fact I’ve admired all your work since I first saw it in the year of jewellery. Your designs are so innovative and original.
The transformation of the can is just amazing too. I’m in awe.

Thanks Pam. I really appreciate that. I have certainly become a believer in the YOJ. I cannot believe how much my work has progressed from the beginning of the year. I am so glad that I decided to participate.

The can really turned out kind of cool huh? It is now “showcased” in my little curio cabinet.
