Hey everyone.

I now have a way to email out announcements regarding my classes and any specials I have in my store. If you would like to participate, please take a moment to sign up. You can opt-out at any time. After you sign up, you will receive an email with a link to confirm you really want to be a part.

I will send out surveys so I can get an idea of what classes people want to take, when they want them to be offered, and of course, I will send out a schedule of classes.

Kelsi’s Gift

Well, it is official. During the month of December I will be doing a fund raiser for the Pre-eclampsia Foundation. This is a great thing in so many ways.

As many of you already know, Kelsi, my daughter, was born 4 months early because I developed severe Pre-eclampsia 23 weeks into my pregnancy. She was born at 24 weeks on December 30th. She lived only 2 1/2 days and died in my hands on January 1st 2005. The Pre-eclampsia Foundation is a wonderful place to find information about PE, but it is so much more to me. I had never heard of PE taking a child’s life. I felt so alone. When I found the PE foundation I realized I wasn’t alone. This had happened to other people too. It is true what they say about misery loving company. It wasn’t that I was glad this had happened to them. I would never wish that pain on my worst enemy. But it was nice to be among people who had walked the path before me. I knew I wasn’t alone. I honestly don’t know how I would have gotten through the darkest hours of my life without the love and support of the women on the PE Foundation boards. I even went on to become a Grief and Loss moderator for them.

This December Kelsi would have been 3 years old. I made my angels in her honor and what better way to honor her than to donate the proceeds to the Pre-eclampsia foundation. So, from December 1st to January 1st (Kelsi’s Angel Date) I will donate 50% of the sale of ALL angels sold.

This really is for a very good cause. I would really appreciate any help I can get in spreading the word. This is a great Christmas gift. I can even make some of them into ornaments, albeit small ones. I would love to have custom orders as well. So you are not at all limited to what you see on my site. The angels can be customized with birthstone crystals, making these a great gift as a Mother’s or Grandmother’s Pendant.

I will be changing the angels section on my website this week to make ordering easier to understand.

Here is a new angel that I have just listed. I have made three of these in the past and even though I listed this one just tonight, it is the longest any of these have stayed on my site. The others sold within just 15 minutes of listing them.

Class Success

Today I held a wire wrapping class here in Norton, Ohio. It was a lot of fun, at least I had fun.

Here are the pieces that were made. Three of them are made with Beach Glass and the other two are Hematite.

Dragonflies and Elves

This weekend has been one of those weekends that just didn’t go right. However, there are many good things that did go right as well.

We actually had a death in the family over the weekend and while that is fun, it is even worse when it happens during one of the busiest travel times of the year. Luckily, things worked out well for us and I will be able to visit with my family this Thanksgiving.

While things are down emotionally, it is always good to find a laugh somewhere. This laugh comes with the face of my children. One of my online friends posted a link to where you can “Elf yourself.” It is easy to do and a riot to boot. Here are the “Elf Yourself” clips I made with my precious girls.  I hope you enjoy them. Be sure to post back to me with a comment and a link to your Elfing.

The other thing I wanted to post is a pendant I made for a friend of mine. I really like how this one turned out. She really likes Dragonflies and after seeing my butterflies asked if I would make her a dragonfly. This is what I came up with for her.

Getting ready to schedule new classes

I participated in a craft show last weekend. I didn’t do nearly as well as I would have liked, but far better than I expected. I also received a lot of interest in my classes. I am going to be putting together a schedule of classes I teach soon.

I will be teaching a bezel setting class this Thursday, November 15th. I currently have two openings if anyone is interested. I will also be teaching a wire wrapped pendant class on Saturday, November 24th and have two openings left in that one as well.

If you are interested in taking any classes with me at any time, please contact me via phone at: 1-800-876-6981 or my email: melissa@kcjewelbox.com.

Anytime we have 4 students, a class can be put together and scheduled, in addition to what I put up on a schedule. I must have 4 students to run a class, so tell your friends.

My first cast piece – completely finished

I was contacted back in September by a friend of mine with a request to make a necklace for her. She was very patient while I took the time to learn a few new skills to make the pendant. The pendant itself is based on a tattoo on the character of Sirius Black in the Harry Potter Movies.

I made a wax mold of the piece and then went through the process of sprueing, investing and casting the piece. That was a lot of fun. I had seen pictures of how to cast through this method, but never thought I would actually get to do it. But I did, and I have done such since. I will also be doing some more in the near future. We only have 4 weeks of school left. *Sniff Sniff* Luckily, I just signed up for two more classes. YAY!

The chain is completely hand forged and fabricated. I felt the piece was an “old” piece and should look like it has been around for ages. It sure does too. Each link is slightly or drastically different than the next. I applied an antiquing solution to give it that aged feeling.

I was kind of nervous to hear what my client said about it. She gave me complete control of the piece and she said she would trust what I came up with. I am so relieved to announce that she LOVES it! WOOHOO!!! Success!
