I was having fun again tonight. It was nice to turn the kids over to my husband for a little bit. He even made dinner. Such a good man. Anyway, I was playing around with cold connections and just having fun with my new tools. Tonight I got to use my dapping set and punches, Flex-shaft and disc cutter. I LOVE TOOLS – they are SO FUN!
This piece didn’t end up at all how I wanted it to. I was going to attach the domed center with jump rings, but I didn’t leave myself enough room and didn’t drill my holes large enough. D’oh! So I just went with what ever I had and this is where we ended up. It is a bit more industrial looking than I thought it would. The patina didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to either. I was hoping to get that rainbow patina from the torch. Guess I will have to work on it a bit more. I was also attempting to get that torched look to the bail at that top, but when I did the bead at the top kept fizzing and popping at me. I didn’t think that was a very good sign and didn’t want hot pieces of ceramic to explode all over me, so I quit. I figure it will oxidize on its own anyway.
This next pendant is one that I did back in January or February. I never really knew how to finish it off. Then tonight I was going through some of my things and saw this ribbon. I doubled it up, finished it off and now it is done. I like this one.
I have a couple of things to post tonight. Riley (my 7-year-old) is always wanting to make some jewelry with me. She gets the chance every now and then if she gets her homework done in time (which is rare.) Anyway, the other night I was making an angel for a friend that ordered one. Riley said she wanted to make one as well. I had ordered some brass practice wire the week prior and we were ready to go.
Considering this is her first go at it and she is 7 years old, I don’t think she did too bad at all. It reminds me of the Tree People in The Lord of The Rings. hahaha
This is the angel I did while she was working on hers.
I ordered my Flex-shaft and it finally came yesterday. I was so excited. I set right to work on my very first cold connection piece. This pendant is quite rough, but I don’t think it is too shabby for my very first piece.
It is made with Copper and I believe Steel. I don’t think it is aluminum, first, it is heavy and second, it is magnetic.
This is my week 12 YOJ pendant. It isn’t on theme, but it turned out quite pretty. It took forever to wrap the beads on there. The larger crystal is a 6mm Swarovski bicone in Siam. It looks black here, but it was rainy outside today when I was taking the pictures.
This is called The Broken Heart.
This was a good week for Angels. I think I sold 5 or 6. Most of them were custom made for the person ordering them. I really enjoy that part.
I have been asked to provide a table with my jewelry at the Pre-eclampsia Walk-a-thon in Dayton, OH, June 2nd. I am really excited as this organization is very important to me. I am completely honored to be presenting my jewelry there. I will also be in charge of the memorial tribute. I have a couple of ideas, but we will have to see what I come up with.
I call this one the Royal Angel. It is made with a purple Dichroic Glass made by Gail Lacy. I really like the way this one turned out. I have had quite a few comments on it.
This is an angel I made for my friend Rebecca. The three pearls represent her 3 earthly children.
This angel was made for a friend of mine. She is the one that told me about the Pre-eclampsia foundation after my sweet Kelsi died due to pre-eclampsia. The two stones represents Katlyne’s birth and death months.
This next angel was made for my friend Jess. She didn’t know if her angel was a boy or girl so we used a single pearl.
Here are a few new things that I finally got photographed.
This is an agate. It almost looks like a smoky quartz. When held up to the light you can see the light coming through. I love the chocolate color to this stone.
I had this tree agate in a wrap before, but I didn’t like it very much. So I clipped it apart and started over from scratch. I really like the setting of this stone much better now.
This is my first attempt at a cross. It turned out quite large. However, my first pieces are generally that way. They start out pretty big and get smaller and smaller as I get better with my technique. This one measures just under 3″ long. I will keep working with this as I have been requested to make a few more.
I didn’t know what I was going to do for this week. I figured I would end up just doing an off theme pendant. However, my sister asked that I make this particular type of necklace for her. As I was photographing it, the thought came to my mind that it kind of looked like little wind chimes. So here is my Wind Chimes piece.
I have been very busy making several different pendants and a few new angels. I want to add a memorial section to my website. I want to give people a few types of angels that they choose from. My thinking is that I will give them the option of the birthstons and they can select from that. I still have to figure out how it will work since each angel is hand created and no two will ever be really alike. I will also add the Mother’s bracelets and I want to make some heart shaped pendants. I am still working out the designs on those. But here is what I have to add to my website tonight.
Shameless – I love this raspberry colored stone.
Blue Raspbery Ice
Mint Julep – The depth of this stone is AMAZING! It is a larger pendant with some good weight to it, but I like it.
Red Rose Angel
Red heart angel (Riley’s Angel – she liked this one and wanted to have an angel named after her)
Pink Heart Angel
I finally got some good light and was able to photograph the rest of the set.
This is a set for a friend of ours on the iVillage boards. She has been battling breast cancer and doing a superb job at kicking it in the butt. Keep up the great work Maggie.
This gift is made possible by the generous donations of many members on our board. Sometimes Virtual Friends can be the best there is.
I have been trying to get ready for adding a section of Angels to my Website. I wanted to try various looks so that my angels don’t all look the same and people can choose from several styles. I have had some interest in them. I hope I can sell them.
This Angel is a bit different. It is a beautiful Faceted Agate briolette. This particular pendant is reversable. Both sides of the stone were so pretty and full of detail I didn’t know which one to use. It is wrapped in 14K gold filled wire.
This Angel is called Silver Lace. Her skirt is made with Sterling Silver beads woven in with Fine Silver wire.
This Red Angel is actually quite pretty in person. It features a Swarovski Glass pearl for her head and Swarovski faceted crystal for the dress. The dress is made with Fine Silver.
The Carnelian Angel has a deep red heart shaped glass bead for her head. The dress is drapped with Carnelian and sterling silver beads.
I have been busy trying to get some more pendants made. I have had several special requests that I will be posting before the end of this week. Here are my latest beauties. I hope you enjoy.
This is my YOJ (Year of Jewelry) piece. It is for the theme of Stormy Weather. This is Lapis Lazuli wrapped in Sterling Silver.
This one is called Ocean Breeze
This is Mistic Blue Winds
This last one is called Gloden Unakite. It is wrapped in 14K gold filled wire.
